CBAM Certificate Price Q3 2026 Explained for Indian Exporters

€82.32. That is the price of one EU CBAM certificate, covering one tonne of CO₂e, for Q3 2026. The European Commission published it on 5 October 2026 as the weighted average of EU ETS auction prices over the quarter. At the ECB rate of ₹107.89 per euro that day, it is roughly ₹8,880 a tonne.

CBAM Price by the Numbers

| Metric | Value |

|---|---|

| Q3 2026 CBAM certificate price | €82.32 / tCO₂e |

| In rupees (5 Oct 2026) | ≈ ₹8,880 |

| Expected early CCC price in India (forecast) | ₹400–900 |

| Certificate sales for 2026 imports open | 1 February 2027 |

| Value of 0.1 tCO₂e/t above the benchmark | ≈ ₹890 per tonne exported |

Why Is CBAM So Much Higher Than India's Carbon Price?

As of 22 October 2026, no Carbon Credit Certificate (CCC) has traded in India, and CERC has not published a floor or forbearance price. Trading is expected to begin between November 2026 and January 2027. Against the analyst forecast of ₹400–900, the EU border prices the same tonne 10 to 22 times higher. Treat that as a scale, not a measurement: one side is a published price, the other a forecast.

How the CBAM Bill Is Actually Calculated

![How an EU importer's CBAM bill is calculated: embedded emissions minus free allocation minus carbon price paid, times certificate price](https://internationalcarbontrade.com/api/v1/blogs/media/012b2faf-d8bd-45e5-a186-e360a0f2d818)

The price is not the bill. For 2026 imports, certificates owed = embedded emissions, minus a free-allocation adjustment (about 97.5% of the EU benchmark), minus any carbon price paid in India. A product at the benchmark owes little; emissions above it are charged in full. Without verified plant data, importers fall back on default values with a 10% mark-up in 2026. Under current law, free allocation falls every year and reaches zero in 2034. A proposal to stretch that to 2038 is not yet law.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CBAM certificate price for Q3 2026?
The European Commission set it at EUR 82.32 per tonne of CO2e on 5 October 2026, based on the weighted average of EU ETS auction prices over the quarter.
How much is the CBAM price in rupees?
At the ECB rate of Rs 107.89 per euro on 5 October 2026, EUR 82.32 is about Rs 8,880 per tonne of CO2e.

What happens if an exporter has no verified emissions data?
The EU importer must use default values, which carry a 10% mark-up in 2026 and usually raise the bill.
How can ICT help with CBAM costs?
International Carbon Trade builds verified plant-level emissions data through its dMRV platform and supports CBAM reporting. Contact contact@internationalcarbontrade.com or +91 90544 01707.
