CBAM Certificate Price Q3 2026 Explained for Indian Exporters
The EU CBAM certificate price hit €82.32 per tonne for Q3 2026. What it means in rupees, how the CBAM bill is calculated, and why verified data matters.
€82.32. That is the price of one EU CBAM certificate, covering one tonne of CO₂e, for Q3 2026. The European Commission published it on 5 October 2026 as the weighted average of EU ETS auction prices over the quarter. At the ECB rate of ₹107.89 per euro that day, it is roughly ₹8,880 a tonne.
CBAM Price by the Numbers
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Q3 2026 CBAM certificate price | €82.32 / tCO₂e |
| In rupees (5 Oct 2026) | ≈ ₹8,880 |
| Expected early CCC price in India (forecast) | ₹400–900 |
| Certificate sales for 2026 imports open | 1 February 2027 |
| Value of 0.1 tCO₂e/t above the benchmark | ≈ ₹890 per tonne exported |

Why Is CBAM So Much Higher Than India's Carbon Price?
As of 22 October 2026, no Carbon Credit Certificate (CCC) has traded in India, and CERC has not published a floor or forbearance price. Trading is expected to begin between November 2026 and January 2027. Against the analyst forecast of ₹400–900, the EU border prices the same tonne 10 to 22 times higher. Treat that as a scale, not a measurement: one side is a published price, the other a forecast.
How the CBAM Bill Is Actually Calculated

The price is not the bill. For 2026 imports, certificates owed = embedded emissions, minus a free-allocation adjustment (about 97.5% of the EU benchmark), minus any carbon price paid in India. A product at the benchmark owes little; emissions above it are charged in full. Without verified plant data, importers fall back on default values with a 10% mark-up in 2026. Key Dates

Under current law, free allocation falls every year and reaches zero in 2034. A proposal to stretch that to 2038 is not yet law.
ICT helps exporters measure what matters: our dMRV platform builds verified plant-level emissions data, so your EU buyer pays on your real number, not a default.

- The EU importer must use default values, which carry a 10% mark-up in 2026 and usually raise the bill.
